Only 11 days separate us from the start of the NBA regular season, which means it’s time to lay down some hot takes for the upcoming season.  While I may not have been man enough to predict anything truly shocking I have complete certainty that all the below will turn out to be true.  So without further ado I present 10 predictions for the 2015 NBA season: Continue reading

After looking at players 25-16 a few days ago, here are the next tier of great players under the age of 25.  As stated in part 1 the cutoff date for age was September 9 meaning a few of these guys (like Serge Ibaka) are actually 25 now but weren’t when this list was made. Continue reading

Now that the FIBA World Cup has come to a close and we’re stuck in the basketball doldrums before training camp begins, it seems as good a time as ever to unleash a list of arbitrary rankings.

While there are plenty of ‘top player’ lists floating around, this list was put together in the hope of finding the best young players in the game under the ripe young age of 25.  As a result the following list has been compiled with the cutoff date being September 9, 2014 (the completely random date that I started this task) and includes what I believe to be the best 25 under 25 (hence the title).  — As Eliza Malakoff raced through the water and over the finish line, she couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with emotion. After all the hours of training, the six days a week of paddling, the weekly visits to the weight room, and the daily commutes to Bethesda from her home in Alexandria, Malakoff had just become the women’s slalom kayaking U.S. Junior Olympic champion. She had reached a level of success few are lucky enough to achieve, but yet on this day it wasn’t the victory which sent tears down her face but instead a decision she had made months before. The T.C. Williams sophomore had announced that instead of representing the U.S. at the Junior World Championships in Europe, that this race would be the last in her competitive racing career. When VCU School of Business alumnus James Barrett (B.S.’05/B) first came up with the idea behind Tenant Turner, he knew he wouldn’t be able to make it work by himself.

As a result, Barrett enlisted the help of friends and fellow VCU alumni Chris Stewart (B.S.’05/B) and Brandon Anderson (B.S.’06/B) to help complete his vision. Now, almost four months after starting the project together, they have introduced an application to the market that they believe will change the way landlords do business. RICHMOND – The fight for a living-minimum wage has garnered a lot of attention in Virginia thanks to student-led groups at Virginia Commonwealth University that have used their school’s status in the local community to spearhead a fight for change.

The Living Wage Campaign of VCU and Students for Social Action, two student led activism groups, have used a variety of tactics including silent protests and marches, to increase awareness for providing wages all Virginia workers can live on.  These groups have attempted to make their point known by first focusing on their school, which happens to be one of the most powerful employers in the city. RICHMOND, Va. – Take a walk through Elisabeth Ward’s suburban neighborhood in Glen Allen and the first thing that stands out is the roof of her house.  “Extra-terrestrial looking things” Ward says with a laugh, describing the long bluish panels that cover the entirety of the top of her house, “but when you see a $17 electric bill, then you’re happy.” Continue reading
